Teratocarcinoma in testis

Case name: Teratocarcinoma in testis

Case description: Enlarged testis. Biopsy was taken. Teratocarcinoma in testis. A soft, gray specimen with foci of hemorrhage.

Microscopically, tumor tissue appears, no testicular tissue can be seen. Embedded in mucous mesenchymal stroma, the cells build up tubulo-acinary structures, varying in size. They are lined by one or more layers of polygonal cells. These cells have hyperchrom nuclei but pale, foamy forms are visible as well. The mesenchyma compress the tumor nests. Some part of the tumor features papillary structures. Well differentiated tissues, like cartilage and adipose tissue can be observed. Cross sections of differentiated glands are also visible.
